I am currently undertaking doctoral research into malaria vaccine targets at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, the University of Melbourne and the University of Edinburgh. Aside from my research, I have been involved with the World World Federation of Parasitologists as the social media officer. I help manage the website and maintain the Facebook page which I managed to grow to over 8770 members since I started it. We use this as a platform for communicating about parasitology to researchers, clinicians and students, as well as the public. My focus is on promoting information pertaining to all aspects of malaria, from drug/vaccine design to epidemiology and economic impacts. Furthermore, I am also an administrator on the largest parasitology-related Facebook page "Parasites and Parasitology" (where I focus on sharing the latest information on malaria), which currently has over 25 890 members. I also engage in science communication by writing malaria articles for Mostly Science.com and regularly engage both public and professionals in discussing my research and the impact of malaria around the world. Finally, I also utilized social media to launch a successful crowd-funding campaign in 2015 that raised over $7900 towards malaria research. I always make myself available on the WFP Facebook page to discuss anything malaria-related with anyone who is interested.
I have already had the privilege of endorsing Christopher Haggarty-Weir but I would like to let you know that now the page of the World Federation of Parasitologists is reached 10k members and this would not had been possible without Christopher's passion and very hard work. He is a malariologist and shares all malaria related information in this Facebook page. I can testify well on the above as I co-administer the page with him and I am a true witness of his dedication to malaria elimination through social media. I truly look up to him. I would kindly encourage you to visit the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/worldfederationofparasitology/ Where you can find high quality information being posted on a daily basis. Thank you!!! Sara

Being nominated for this award along with a guy like this is really an honor! This is a fight that is going to take a huge group effort and with people like Chris out there working to defeat malaria, it doesn't have a chance. Great work! Alessandro Lauria - Founder - Malaria Defense Project

I would like to thank you Chris, it's been great to see all the breakthroughs that you've been posting on facebook, even when they aren't from your lab, your passion for this topic is inspiring.
Thanks William! Just to clarify, the crowd-funding was for additional resources for a new aspect of the research project. Thanks again for your nomination!
